Applications Received

Over the past few months the ACVM Group has received a large number of applications, mostly for new licences and registrations. The recent trend can be seen below. It is likely that the surge in applications is the result of applicants preparing for submission before 1 April 1999, which was a proposed implementation date for the HSNO and ACVM Acts.

You will recall from previous editions of AgVetLink that the applications backlog had been reduced to approximately 230 applications under review from October 1998 - January 1999 from approximately 450 applications in December 1997. The number of applications completed in the past four months averages at 65 per month. This compares with 61 per month for the last six months of 1998.

The number of total applications in the system has now increased to 360 as of the beginning of May 1999. Approximately 60 of these applications have passed the prescreen and we are waiting for applicants to submit the necessary data before we can commence evaluation.

It is extremely important that, although we are currently receiving a very large number of applications, we minimise the time taken to complete the application review. It is vitally important that all applicants prepare applications that are complete and contain all the necessary information. What the figures above and below do not show is the number of applications we have received in the past four months that have failed the prescreen pending further information. We currently have 37 applications in this category.

While we are receiving a large number of applications, the turnaround time to complete an application will be affected. We will endeavour to minimise any delay that this may cause. However, if you have any concerns about this or wish to re-prioritise any of your applications currently under review, please contact Kieran Galvin at the ACVM Group.

Staff Profile

Maree Zinzley
Customer Services Manager ACVM Group

Maree was born and bred in the province of Taranaki, but she has spent more than half her life in Wellington.

Although her career has taken many paths, she has consistently worked in the customer service field. Her first role in Wellington was that of acting Post Mistress. She then moved into the position of Teller Trainer for the savings bank staff of the New Zealand Post Office.

After time out to have a family, Maree returned to the workforce for Telecom as a Customer Service and Sales Representative. From here, she assisted in the development of the Credit Control unit for Telecom Directories, and eventually took over the role as Customer Services Manager.

Maree moved on to take up brief Administrator and Customer Service Management roles for Fay Richwhite (merchant bankers) and a courier firm. When both companies restructured, Maree spent the next two years studying full-time for her New Zealand Diploma in Business. She is currently working towards her Bachelor of Business degree.

Before joining MAF in April, Maree was the Office Administrator for Independent Casing Co Ltd.
