Approval of final labels

The Animal Remedies and Pesticides Boards noted that the process of approving final labels will in future be separated from the registration process. This means that products will be issued a registration certificate prior to final label approval, on the basis of the draft label supplied with the application. There will be an additional condition on the registration that the product cannot be sold prior to the final label being approved by the Board. The impact of this for registrants is that products will go on to the public register earlier and annual fees will be incurred for products that are still awaiting final label approval.

This will have the benefit of reducing the backlog of in excess of 600 products that remain in ‘pending’ or ‘awaiting final label approval’ (some for ten years) prior to the start up of the new ACVM Act. The ACVM Group will write to all affected applicants and advise the action that will be taken with their products.
