For products used to manage plants the primary concern will continue to be residues in agricultural produce or, indirectly, in animal products.

Registration condition 1 below directly relates to the product and the uses proposed by the registrant of that product.

  1. The product has been assessed for potential residues when used on/ around specific food-producing plants. It may be used*:
    1. on/around any of the following food producing plants:
      • (specified plants);

    and

    1. in the following manner:
      • frequency and rate of application as specified;
      • means of application as specified;
      • duration from last application to harvest; and
      • limitations on grazing or direct feeding of treated plants to food-producing animals.

    * Where necessary and appropriate there will be a qualifier that specifically prohibits the use of the product on a particular plant species, or under particular circumstances.

    There are no assurances or warranties from MAF as to the effectiveness or plant safety of the product when used as recommended by the registrant.

    Registration conditions 2 and 3 below will legalise uses that are not in any way recommended by the registrant.

  2. The product may be used on or around any plant not used to produce food. Treated plants must not be grazed by or directly fed to food producing animals for a specified number of days after last application.

  3. If the product is used:
    • on any food producing plant other than those listed in condition 1; or
    • in a manner not specified in condition 1.
      The user must ensure that residues of any substance in the product that may occur in plant or animal material produced from the plants treated do not exceed the lesser of either:
    • the specified maximum residue limit in the New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Mandatory Food Standard 1999; or
    • the default maximum residue limit when a MRL for that substance has not been specified.

    Use of the product in a manner not specified in condition 1 above is not recommended by the registrant. There are no assurances or warranties from either MAF or the registrant as to the effectiveness or plant safety of the product for any of these uses. Use at your own risk.
