Policy on licensing/registration of animal remedies and pesticides |
In the last few months the ACVM Group has received a number of applications that have not adequately supported the claims being made about the product. The ACVM Group would like to remind applicants that they have a responsibility to know their products and provide a comprehensive and adequate hazard analysis along with their applications.
In situations where applications are technically inadequate to support approval the application will be declined. Under certain circumstances a decision may have to be deferred until some particular action has been taken by the applicant.
The prescreening process does identify obvious non-technical deficiencies in applications and these applications are returned to the applicant with advice on the deficiencies. No assessment of the information is carried out at the prescreening stage. However, once an application is officially received and evaluation begins, the ACVM Group must carry on to a decision to approve or decline the application. During this process deficiencies in the technical information may be identified.
To make the decision-making more transparent to applicants, MAF has developed an operational policy that specifies the rules to be used when approving or declining an application. The policy can be viewed on the ACVM Groups website under Policyor a copy will be sent on request. If you have any comments about the policy please send them by 15 March 2000 to:
