MAF's X-Ray Machines at the Border

By using the new x-ray machines at airports and for mail coming into the country, MAF Quarantine Services (MQS) is identifying a number of products that are being advised to the ACVM Group.

After completing class determinations it has been recognised that some products need registration or licensing prior to coming into the country (although a number qualify as ‘low risk’ products and may not need registration under the ACVM Act in the future). Some of these products have been coming in undetected for a number of years, so it is pleasing to see that the increased surveillance at the border, and the improved border systems that the ACVM Group and MQS have implemented, is having a positive effect on compliance for animal remedies and pesticides.
