Oral nutritional compound Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) applications |
A number of substances have been proposed to be incorporated onto the Generally Regarded As Safe Register for Oral Nutritional Compounds under the ACVM Act 1997.These substances are used as feed additives in oral nutritional compounds and can be found on the website under Publications/Discussion Documents/ Draft GRAS lists. Any substance confirmed as GRAS in this schedule should be used in accordance with the NZ Feed Manufacturers Association principles of Good Manufacturing Practice or an equivalent MAF-recognised code of practice. The amount added to a feedstuff shall not exceed the amount reasonably required to accomplish the intended technical effect. If specific limitations have been placed on the use of a substance, such as its maximum inclusion level, such limitations are specified in the GRAS list and must be strictly observed. For more information regarding the GRAS register for oral nutritional compounds please refer to the website, which specifies the necessary qualifiers for GRAS substances. The proposed list is open for public comment in terms of appropriateness for inclusion onto the GRAS list. Comments should be sent in writing, by 17 November 2000, to: |
