Information Required on Ingredients That Have No CAS Number

Some applicants have been questioning our requirements for ingredients that have no CAS number (the ingredients are mixtures of components produced for a purpose by a manufacturer). For such products, the ACVM Group requires an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for the ingredient and details of its composition. (In circumstances where this information is confidential to the manufacturer, it can be supplied directly to the relevant Board.)

The composition details required by the ACVM Group are the names of the individual components present, their CAS numbers and the percentage of the composition each component represents (in the formulation). This information is required to ensure that the records of the trade name product are full and complete and that the Board is aware of the composition of each ingredient. Much of this information is also required to effect the smooth transition of products to the ACVM and HSNO Acts.
