Pesticides - Vertebrate Pest Control Seminar |
Brian Pidford (National Manager ACVM Verification) and Warren Hughes (Pesticides Technical Assessor) attended the National Technology Transfer Seminar of Vertebrate Pest Control recently held in Wellington. The theme of the seminar, which was attended by a wide range of organisations and individuals, was Whats new in vertebrate pest control. Both Warren and Brian addressed the seminar on the regulatory environment in relation to vertebrate pest control. Brians address concentrated on the proposed changes to the Vertebrate Pest Control Regulations, while Warrens address related to the current and future regulatory control of pesticides. The changes have been worked through with ERMA NZ and take the current process towards the future requirements under the HSNO Act.
A number of keynote addresses at the seminar were noteworthy. The Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment (Morgan Williams) gave an address on New Zealands perspective on possum control, and the Animal Health Board General Manager (Robert Isbister) spoke on the AHBs vision of possum control. The session on biocontrol (including genetic modification), which is a topical area of debate at the moment, was also of interest.
