The last meeting of the MfE/ERMA NZ/MAF technical working group was held on 28 April. Two key issues were discussed:

  • Memorandum of Understanding

MAF and ERMA NZ are in the process of developing a Memorandum of Understanding. It is envisaged that this will consist of an "umbrella" document with a number of attachments covering the main operational areas. One of these will cover the specific responsibilities for the transitional decision making process. Others are likely to cover compliance, the approval process and the setting of MRLs.

  • Scheduling of animal remedies

In order for animal remedies that are also toxic substances (and for technical grade actives that are also toxic substances) to be caught in transition from the Pesticides Act to the HSNO Act they will have to be notified to the Ministry of Health so they are included on the toxic substances schedule.

Letters will be going out from the ACVM Group in the near future to advise all registrants of what needs to be done and the relevant time frames. This is important as any products not scheduled on the implementation date (1 October 1998) will be illegal.
