Reviews
Systems, procedures, processes
As part of the NZFSA 2006-2010 Business Plan, a comprehensive review of Approvals and ACVM Group systems, procedures and processes is underway. Each area of the Group will be examined – the Food section review is nearly finished. Later this month, a contracted reviewer will start work on the ACVM and Non-food section. This will be followed by a review of the Production and Processing section.
The review will provide valuable information for the Standardisation Project, which aims to align systems and procedures across the Group. Feedback on processes would be welcome. Contact Assistant Director John Bongiovanni (john.bongiovanni@nzfsa.govt.nz) by 1 December 2006.
Standards
ACVM standards are reviewed every three years. The current review cycle includes the following standards:
• Data Requirements for a Food or Feed Use Clearance: Plant Compounds
• Registration Standard and Guideline for Determination of a Residue Withholding Period for Veterinary Medicines
• Registration Standard and Guideline for Efficacy of Anthelmintics in Cattle, Sheep, Goats and Deer
• Registration Standard and Guideline for Efficacy of Antibloat Products
• Registration Standard and Guideline for Efficacy of Emetics
• Registration Standard and Guideline for Efficacy of Vertebrate Pesticides
• Registration Standard and Guideline for Target Animal Safety

• Research Standard
• Standard and Guideline for Good Manufacturing Practice
• Standard and Guideline for Efficacy of Intramammary Antimicrobials
• Standard and Guideline for Efficacy of Oral Rehydration Therapy

We invite comments or suggestions relating to any of the above standards as a preliminary step in the review. Please send your comments to Mary Alexander (mary.alexander @nzfsa.govt.nz) by 1 December 2006. If a significant re-write of a standard is indicated, the normal public consultation procedure will be employed.
