Milk withholding period based on dilution policy

The ACVM Group has consulted with stakeholders on a proposed operational policy to consider milk withholding periods based on intraherd dilution. The policy is intended to take account of the dilution within a herd’s milk when setting withholding periods for products that are likely to be used only on an individual animal basis while providing sufficient information for safe and correct use in unusual circumstances.

Following a meeting with stakeholders (16 April 2007), the policy was redrafted to clarify when it would be applied. Stakeholders were then given the chance to comment on the revised draft, with submissions closing on 5 June 2007.

Four submissions were received, and the ACVM Group will consider these submissions before the policy is finalised. It is expected a decision will be made before 20 July 2007. Affected stakeholders and those who made submissions will be notified when the finalised policy is available on the ACVM website. The ACVM Group would like to thank stakeholders who took the time to make submissions.
