Meetings/Conferences
Registration Liaison Committee (RLC) meeting
The last RLC meeting for the year was held in Canberra, 19-20 September. Trish Whitaker and Maree Zinzley attended this meeting on behalf of the ACVM Group.
Items of particular interest on the agenda included the changes to the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority's (APVMA) organisational structure and management responsibilities, which were implemented in early September 2007. APVMA has moved to a corporate governance arrangement with the focus on an appropriate mix of structure, management responsibilities and resource allocation to enable it to achieve its objectives. The changes have allowed for a structure with better reporting accountabilities consistent with the recent corporate governance changes.
Further information about the restructure can be found on the APVMA website (www.apvma.gov.au/index.asp).
NZ Plant Protection Society Conference
This year the ACVM Group's Rebecca Fisher and Andrew Pearson attended the NZ Plant Protection Society Conference, which was held in Napier. The conference provided an opportunity to keep up-to-date with new research and industry thinking, as well as to liaise with company representatives and researchers. All of the presentations were informative and comments around regulatory/government authorities noted.
Industry Liaison Group (ILG)
This meeting was held on 9 November 2007. A number of bullet point items were tabled.
• FairAd: There has been a change in leadership for FairAd. Tom Davies has resigned and has been replaced by Justin Hurst.
• AGCARM membership mergers: Jack Richardson advised the members of the merger between Merial and Ancare.
• The Chair advised that this meeting would be the last for Jack Richardson as he has elected to retire. Graham Peters will take up the position in February 2008. Mr Peters is currently the General Manager, Communications, for Federated Farmers.
• The Chair and members acknowledged the work and input that Jack has given to this forum. We thank him sincerely for his contributions.
