ACVM Group Operational Policy: Importation of Hormonal Growth Promotants

154 ACVM 10/02

1 BACKGROUND

The purpose of this policy is:

To clarify the ACVM Group operational policy on the importation of hormonal growth promotants (HGPs); and

To ensure consistency in the import clearance of HGPs.

This policy does not cover the importation of somatotropins, as the same risks do not apply to their parallel importation.

2 POLICY

2.1 Only HGP products registered under the ACVM Act 1997 may be imported into New Zealand for use on livestock in New Zealand.

2.2 A registered HGP may only be imported by the New Zealand registrant of that registered product. If the registrant is also the distributor, the registrant must comply with the Standard for Distributors of Hormonal Growth Promotants (ACVMS 10.2).

2.3 An agent or distributor may import a registered HGP on behalf of the registrant only if the registrant provides a written authorisation to that effect.

2.4 All distributors must comply with the Standard for Distributors of Hormonal Growth Promotants (ACVMS 10.2).

2.5 Requirements under all other relevant legislation must be met.
