GRAS Public Consultation August 2009
Proposed Generally Recognised as Safe Substances (GRAS) for Oral Nutritional Compounds, Veterinary Medicines other than Oral Nutritional Compounds, and Plant Compounds.
It has been proposed that the substances in the attached lists be incorporated into the Register of Substances Generally Recognised as Safe as Feed Additives, held by the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines (ACVM) Group of NZFSA.
Oral Nutritional Compound Applications
The following substances when incorporated into an oral nutritional compound in accordance with good manufacturing practices and good feeding practice, and subject to any stated limitations, are generally recognised as safe. For the purpose of this listing good manufacturing and good feeding practices includes the following restrictions:
The quantity of the substance in the oral nutritional compound does not exceed the amount reasonably required to accomplish its intended physical, nutritional or other technical effect; and
The quantity of the substance that becomes a component of the oral nutritional as a result of its use in manufacturing, processing, or packaging, and which is not intended to accomplish any physical or other technical effect, shall be reduced to the extent reasonably possible; and
The substance is of appropriate grade for inclusion in an oral nutritional compound, and is prepared and handled as a food ingredient.
