Adverse Event Reporting Is Important!

July 2008

What you can do to help

Veterinarians are in a unique position to see the effects of veterinary medicines. When you see that something has gone wrong, please let us know. Your feedback is critical for us.

You may think that we want feedback only on registered products, but it may be just as important for exempt products such as animal feeds, mineral supplements and herbal remedies. Without the information provided by adverse event reports, it is difficult for us to bring about any changes needed.

What are adverse events?

Adverse events can be:

unexpected side effects

residues

inefficacy

side effects and contraindications that are already on the label or when they occur at an unexpected frequency or differ from normal.

What steps to take

Fill out an adverse event report form (http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/acvm/publications/forms/aer_form.htm)

Give as complete a history as possible.

Provide any related information, such as a summary of previous cases, which might have prompted the report.

Email, fax or post to us.

If you have questions or comments, use the ‘contact this person’ option at the bottom of the VetQuickSearch home page to email us.
