What we do

The people dealing with the Animal Products Act are responsible for setting and ensuring compliance with standards for the primary production and export of meat, game, seafood, honey and other animal products.

They also negotiate market access conditions for New Zealand products of animal origin; provides export assurances and accredits verifiers and other service providers.

Phasing out the Meat Act and management of the transition to the new Animal Products Act is the priority. Animal Products Act 1999

The Animal Products Act 1999 regulates the production and processing of animal material and products in New Zealand.   The Act's purpose is to protect human and animal health, and facilitate overseas market access.

The Animal Products area of the site has requirements applying to most industry users but those with Meat Act licences/approvals must also follow the requirements on the Meat and Seafood sections of the Animal Products site.
