Notice for Procurement Control of Wild Pigs
Under section 81B of the Animal Products Act 1999, I, Tony Zohrab, Director (Animal Products), issue this Notice for the purpose of specifying requirements that must be met in relation to the procurement of wild pigs for processing for human consumption from the restricted procurement area as described in the schedule to this Notice.
1 Commencement
This Notice comes into force on the 13th day of August 2004.
2 Application
(1) This Notice applies only to wild pigs taken from the restricted procurement area specified in Schedule 1 (The Area).
(2) The requirements of this Notice are additional to any requirements for the procurement of wild pigs as specified in the Animal Products (Specification for Products Intended for Human Consumption) 2004 Notice.
3 Requirements
(1) Every wild pig taken from the Area and presented for processing must be held by the primary processor until released under clause (6) of this Notice.
(2) The primary processor must take a sample of meat from every pig taken from the Area and presented for processing.
(3) The samples are to be packaged and sent for residue testing to determine the presence or otherwise of the compounds; brodifacoum, bromadiolone and flocoumaphen.
(4) Testing for brodifacoum, bromadiolone and flocoumaphen may only be carried out at laboratory approved by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority for this test (see Schedule 2).
(5) The particulars of the sample must be entered onto the NZFSA residues database (http://residues.maf.govt.nz/residues) as a suspect sample by an animal product officer.
(6) No pig, or any animal material derived from any pig, except as required for sampling, originating from the Area and delivered to the primary processor may be released by the primary processor and removed from the site without the written approval of one of the residue programme coordinators as listed in Schedule 3.
(7) Disposal of retained and tested pigs may only be done upon the written direction of the residue programme coordinator.
(8) All costs associated with the packaging, postage and analytical testing of samples required by this Notice are the responsibility of the primary processor.

Schedule 1
General description of the Area
The Area above is within Marlborough Province of the South Island and is approximately that area of land and sea north and east of the Bryant and Richmond Ranges, north of the Wairau River and the coast line between Cape Soucis and Rarangi (settlement) and includes all the islands of the Marlborough Sounds.
More particularly the area is the land and sea area bounded by and enclosed within the geographical coordinates of Cape Soucis (173° 36’ east longitude and 41° 2’40” south latitude) and Rarangi to the extent of enclosing a sea and land area between Cape Soucis and Rarangi.and including all the offshore islands of the Marlborough Sounds within the described area but excepting Stephens Island.

Cape Soucis (173° 36’ east longitude and 41° 2’40” south latitude) to Croisilles Hill (173° 35’ 50” east longitude 41° 5’ south latitude) to South Castor Peak (173° 35’ east longitude 41° 8’ south latitude south latitude) to Mount Duppa (173° 10’ east longitude 41° 12’ 30” south latitude) to Saddle Hill (173° 26’ east longitude, 41° 16’ 10” south latitude) to Little Twin (173° 24 ‘ east longitude 41° 19’ 40” south latitude) to Mount Fishtail (173° 29’ 15” east longitude 41° 25’ south latitude) to Mount Richmond (173° 23’ east longitude 41° 28’south latitude) to the north bank of the Wairau River at 173° 27’ 45” east longitude 41° 34’ south latitude then eastwards along bounded by the north bank of the Wairau River to 173° 58 east longitude 41° 26” south latitude (approximately at Wairau River bridge on New Zealand state highway 1 at Tuamarina) to 174° 2” 30” east longitude 41° 23’ 45” south latitude (approximately at Rarangi), then all the land and sea area to a distance of 5 km from the low water mark from 174° 2” 30” east longitude 41° 23’ 45” south latitude to Soucis 173° 36’ east longitude and 41° 2’40” south latitude including all the offshore islands within the area bounded by 174° 2” 30” east longitude 41° 23’ 45” south latitude to 174° 26’ east longitude 40° 23’ 45 ‘ south latitude to 174° 26’ east latitude 40° 41 south latitude to 173° 36’ east longitude 40° 41’ south latitude to 173 ° 36’ east longitude 41° 2’ 40‘ south latitude (Cape Soucis).
