5 Identification of Hunting Location
There are different requirements for the identification of the kill or capture location depending on the area of land to be hunted and the mode of hunting. These are described in the following sections.
5.1 Hunting of Wild Animals on Specified Areas of Land
If the certified supplier only hunts wild animals:
• on the ground or from ground conveyances; and
• on private properties and/or crown owned/Department of Conservation administered properties and this land is described in the Operations Manual; and
• the animals are generally confined within the property by fencing and/or geographical features of that defined area of land;
then a topographical map, with a standard 1:50,000 scale can be used to identify the kill or capture location of each animal or group of animals (refer to section 6.1 for information on identifying the animals).
The certified supplier also has the option of identifying the kill or capture location using GPS data (including waypoints), if this is agreed with the primary processor and described in the approved Operations Manual.
5.2 Helicopter Hunting of Wild Animals
The location where each animal is killed must be specified using GPS data. GPS data must include:
• the date of the hunting activity;
• GPS co-ordinates at the commencement and completion of the flight or ground hunting trip during which the hunting activity occurred;
• time and GPS co-ordinates of each kill or capture location (waypoints); and
• in the case of a helicopter operation, the flight data points taken at a maximum of 30 second intervals for the entire hunting flight.
5.3 Ground Hunting of Wild Animals on Unspecified Areas of Land
If the certified supplier hunts on:
• the ground or from ground conveyances; and
• areas of land that have not been specified within the approved Operations Manual;
The location where each animal is killed or captured (other than for rabbits, hares and wallabies) must be specified using GPS data. The kill location of rabbits, hares and wallabies must be identified using either GPS data or a topographical map with a standard 1:50,000 scale.
5.4 Hunting on Game Estates
Game estate deer can only be procured from game estates where they are fully confined within the boundaries of the game estate by fencing or geographical features. Other game estate species may or may not be confined within the boundaries of the game estate.
The kill location of game estate animals must be identified on either a topographical map with a standard 1:50,000 scale or using GPS data (including waypoints). The method used must be agreed with the primary processor and described in the approved Operations Manual.
