Workshop for Egg Processors Requiring Risk Management Programmes
6 April 2005
Dear Egg Processor/Producer
Workshop for Egg Processors Requiring Risk Management Programmes
RMP Registration
The Animal Products Act 1999 requires primary processors of eggs to operate under a registered risk management programme. Primary processing of eggs includes harvesting at the laying farm, candling of eggs and associated activities such as grading and packing of eggs.
Larger egg processors were required to have their risk management programme registered by July 2004. The remaining primary processors of eggs are required by law to have their risk management programme registered by 1 July 2005.
It has recently been agreed that egg processors who have less than 100 female birds and sell all their eggs direct to the consumer or user, will be exempt from the requirement to have a risk management programme. If you are a primary processor of eggs, have more than 100 female birds and sell any of your eggs through shops, restaurants and markets you will need to operate under a registered risk management programme.
Workshop: RMP Development and Preparation for Registration
A series of workshops will be held around the country to assist egg processors to get their risk management programmes registered. These workshops will be free for egg processors and it is strongly recommended that if you need a risk management programme you attend the nearest one to you (or any other one if the date suits you better). Morning tea and lunch will be provided. Details of workshop dates and venues are attached.
The workshop will explain briefly what the legal requirements are, and then go through the template page by page to explain how to fill it out correctly (see attached for details of the workshop outline). If you have a copy of the template you should bring this with you so that you can fill it out as you go. Additional copies of the template will be available at the workshop. After this is completed we will explain to you what the next steps are to get your RMP registered and what will happen after that. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Please indicate which workshop you wish to attend by returning the attached confirmation form at least 5 working days prior to the selected workshop.
