30 July 2008: Letter to Affected Parties: Proposed amendment to the Verification 2005 Statement of Policy: operators affected by the NZFSA’s Animal Feeds Review Attachment 1: Operators affected and verification background

NZFSA has sent this letter to pet food secondary processors that we believe may be affected by implementation of the outcome of the Animal Feeds Review. This letter outlines the proposed amendment to the Statement of Policy relating to the verification of these operators under the Animal Products Act regime. It also explains initial verification and listing requirements.

Animal product businesses that are operating under a risk management programme will not be affected by the proposed amendment.

9 June 2008: Letter to Affected Parties: Progress on implementing the NZFSA’s Animal Feeds Review and ‘ACVM Act: regulatory changes under the ACVM Act’ discussion paper

NZFSA has sent this letter to pet food processors that we believe may be affected by Animal Feeds Review. This letter outlines progress that has been made on the implementation of the outcome of the NZFSA’s Animal Feeds Review since the previous letter. It also outlines related work that NZFSA is undertaking under the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act, namely the recently released discussion paper titled ”Implementation of the ACVM Act: Regulatory changes, No 03/08, May 2008”.

All petfood products sold on the domestic New Zealand market must in addition comply with any legal requirements notified by the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997. Petfood products that are manufactured for the purpose of being fed by mouth with the intention of providing nutritional benefit to the animal, are considered Oral Nutritional Compounds (ONC) under this Act and supporting Regulations.
