Consultation - Organic bee keeping review
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority invited submissions from all interested parties on a proposal to amend the organic production rules for bee keeping and bee products exported to the European Community.

Outcome
NZFSA considered the submissions and drafted revised technical rules for supplementary feeding when the survival of hives is endangered due to bad weather or other exceptional circumstances.
The revised rules include:
- a wider range of supplementary organic feed
- provisions for supplementary feeding for organic queen bee production.
NZFSA notified the amendments to the European Commission. The Commission has confirmed the amendments as equivalent to the European requirements.
The amended supplementary feed provisions are in sections 7.5.2 and 7.5.3 of the technical rules.
