Summary of Submissions on the Review of Requirements for the Transport and some Storage of Animal Materials and Products
4 Outcome of consultation
The analysis of the submissions received by NZFSA has resulted in NZFSA recommending to the Minister for Food Safety that the proposed amendments to the regulatory framework proceed. The Minister sought the agreement of the Cabinet Economic Growth and Infrastructure Committee for the regulatory amendments exempting the transportation of certain animal material and products as proposed under Option 3.
4.1 Exemptions from the RMP requirement
On 31 August 2009 Cabinet agreed that that the transportation of the following animal material and products be exempt from the RMP requirement:
• Non-dairy animal material and products for animal consumption for the export and domestic markets. This exemption will come into effect on 2 November 2009.
• Dairy animal material and products for human consumption for the domestic and export markets. This exemption will come into effect on 31 March 2010.
• Dairy animal material and products for animal consumption for the domestic and export markets. This exemption will come into effect on 31 March 2010.
4.2 RCS coming into effect
The RCS will come into effect on 2 November 2009. It will provide an alternative to the RMP requirement for the transportation of all animal material and products intended for export with official assurances.
