1 Introduction

On 2 June 2009 the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) released a public discussion document no. 04/09 entitled Review of Requirements for the Transport and some Storage of Animal Materials and Products. .

This discussion paper sought feedback on NZFSA’s proposals for changes to the requirements regulating the transportation, and some aspects of storage, of all animal products and materials, ie non-dairy and dairy, intended for human and for animal consumption, that are:

• exported with official assurances, including the handling of these products and materials at airports and wharves;

• exported without official assurances; or

• traded on the domestic market.

This document summarises the opinions, concerns and queries raised by the submitters. It does not seek to provide a detailed NZFSA response on these matters. NZFSA will give consideration to the matters raised by the submitters and will address these in the next step of the process.
