Dairy Residue Monitoring Programme 2002-2004

Some points to note:

1. To date, four random milk rounds and one targeted colostrum round (colostrum is the milk produced immediately following calving and is used for specialty products due to its high immuno protein content).

2. Over 80 compounds screened at various times with a minimum of 71 compounds in any one round.

3. 18,800 individual analyses season to date.

4. The NCCP is administered by NZFSA under the Dairy Industry (National Residue Monitoring Programme) 2002. The NCCP follows on from the National Residue Monitoring Programme for Raw Milk that was established in 1997 by the then NZ Dairy Board on behalf of the export dairy industry.

5. This is the second year of operation as NCCP. Six random milk rounds and one targeted colostrum round were completed in the 2003/2003 season with no results exceeding MRLs.

6. In assessing conformance to MRLs, consideration is given to the New Zealand MRLs as well as those of international markets.

7. NCCP assesses raw milk at the dairy farm and prior to any consolidation in the tanker or dairy factory. Under the New Zealand (Maximum Residue Limits of Agricultural Compounds) Food Standards 2004 MRLs apply to food rather than raw material.

8. The purpose of the programme is to:

(i) determine whether  that regulatory framework is working effectively

(ii) demonstrate the level of conformance achieved by the NZ dairy industry.

9. The programme is designed to give an assurance that at least 99% of milk conforms to NZ and international requirements and has a confidence limit of 95%.
