Outcome of reviews conducted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and the New Zealand Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) on a report by Séralini et al entitled “New analysis of a rat feeding study with a genetically modified maize reveals signs of hepatorenal toxicity”. This briefing also provides an explanation of the role of animal feeding studies in safety assessments of genetically modified (GM) foods.
