Non Commercial Wild Food Review
NZFSA is reviewing non-commercial wild food in New Zealand to assess the potential risks to public health. The ultimate aim is to provide information about those risks, so that hunters and gatherers can make safe decisions about the wild food they eat.

As an initial step in the review, NZFSA commissioned a report from the Institute of Environmental and Scientific Research Ltd (ESR) to assess the chemical and microbial risks that may be present. The report shows that though wild foods may not present a huge risk, there is a lack of reliable information on harvesting and consumption.
