For Your Information FD3/07: Costa Rica – Dairy Listings

1 Dairy Factory Listings

1.1 NZFSA has been notified by Costa Rica’s Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, the competent authority responsible for inspecting and listing dairy factories approved to export to Costa Rica, that instead of their officials carrying out individual on-site plant inspections prior to listing, they are trialling an alternative approach where information on sanitary measures and compliance will be sought by way of a questionnaire from NZFSA and dairy plants wishing to be listed.

1.2 Costa Rican authorities have advised that while the process is being established those dairy plants that were inspected and approved in June 2004 can continue to export.

1.3 While NZFSA awaits further clarification from Costa Rica on this alternative approach and the level of information required, NZFSA is calling for expressions of interest from those companies who wish for their dairy plants to go through the process for listing. RMP Operators can forward details of the dairy plants, including the plant’s unique identifier number (Refer to: http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/dairy/registers-lists/reg-fac.htm) they wish to be listed to Antonia Aloe by email at: antonia.aloe@nzfsa.govt.nz by Friday 7^th September 2007.
