Information on residues and chemical contaminants in dairy material/product
February 2009
Under the Animal Products Act 1999 (APA), all dairy processing, including activities at the farm dairy, must be covered by a risk management programme (RMP) registered with NZFSA. In conjunction with the Agricultural Compounds and Veterinary Medicines Act 1997 (ACVM Act) which regulates the use of agricultural compounds and veterinary medicines, the APA sets out various requirements to ensure that residues are not present in New Zealand dairy products.
The information provided below is intended to assist those:
• responsible for developing or operating a dairy RMP
• responsible for verification or assessment of an RMP or particular activities under an RMP
• with an interest in the procedures to ensure that New Zealand dairy products do not contain unacceptable levels of chemical residues or contaminants, or
• with an interest in the findings from the independent national Monitoring undertaken by NZFSA.
