Folic acid fortification

The Minister for Food Safety, Kate Wilkinson, announced on 27 August 2009 her decision to defer the commencement date of the New Zealand mandatory fortification of bread with folic acid until 31 May 2012.

The standard has been amended to provide permission for manufacturers to voluntarily fortify bread with folic acid from 25 September 2009.
