Importing foods for personal consumption or as gifts into New Zealand
NZFSA does not regulate small quantities of food imported for private use, or as gifts. Refer to Generic Clearance Procedure (http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/imported-food/clearance/index.htm) for applicable weight restrictions. However some foods can bring in unwanted pests and diseases and the exclusion, eradication or effective management of these risks to the economy, environment and human health are managed by Biosecurity New Zealand. Therefore you must check with Biosecurity NZ before bringing with you or importing, the following foods and food related products:
• Meat and meat products
• Eggs and egg products
• Fresh produce
• Fresh fruit
• Dairy products
• Honey and bee products
• Seeds and plants or plant material
Note that packaging material associated with the importing of food, such as boxes and straw may also be of interest to Biosecurity NZ.
