This document outlines the New Zealand Food Safety Authority’s (NZFSA) high level design of the future Imported Food Regime and associated implementation plan. The design reflects recommendations adopted by the Government in response to the Imported Food Review1 and incorporates feedback received during the engagement period (16 October – 20 November 2006) on the draft proposal. This involved NZFSA Imported Food Advisory Forum, relevant government agencies and a small group of importers that expressed an interest in this work. The draft proposal has also been presented at the NZFSA conference and to various local and overseas government agencies.
