Application A596 – Vegetable Oil Phytosterol Esters in Low Fat Yoghurt Mini Drinks – Initial Assessment Report

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this application. The New Zealand Food Safety Authority will comment at the Draft Assessment stage. Our only comment at this stage is that by increasing the concentration of plant sterols per serve as requested in A596, a small and single serving of a food is becoming a vehicle for a metered dose of an ingredient added for a medical benefit. Accepting this application may set a precedent for foods of this nature. This is an issue which could be covered in the Draft Assessment Report.
