Application A552 Cadmium in Peanuts – Draft Assessment Report

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this application. The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) has the following comments to make.
NZFSA supports the preferred approach to amend the Table to clause 2 of Standard 1.4.1 to increase the existing ML for cadmium in peanuts from 0.1 to 0.5 mg/kg. This allows greater choice in sourcing peanuts overseas, while ensuring that good agricultural practices are maintained. We note that the exposure assessment shows that raising the maximum level will not affect public health and safety.
