Application A595 – Food derived from Insect Protected Corn Line MON89034 – Draft Assessment Report

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this application. The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) has the following comments to make.

NZFSA has had the safety assessment prepared by FSANZ reviewed by the Institute of Environmental Science and Research Limited (ESR). ESR and NZFSA agree with preferred approach stated by FSANZ in the Draft Assessment Report (DAR), that is, to amend standard 1.5.2 to include food derived from insect protected corn line MON 89034.

The only comment we wish to make is that the Safety Assessment contained within the DAR would be clearer if the references to supporting studies were placed adjacent to the sections that discuss them, rather than at the end of the assessment.
