Export Eligibility Requirements: Agrichemical Residue Assurance Standard for Fresh Plant Products

The Agrichemical Residue Assurance Standard for Fresh Plant Products will enable official assurances to be provided when these are required by importing country authorities, or where required to facilitate market access.

Alongside the Standard, NZFSA has produced Guidelines for the Development of Residue Assurance Programmes to assist industry organisations, exporters and other industry participants to develop, document and register their residue assurance programmes under the Standard. The guidelines also identify criteria that NZFSA deems to be acceptable practice for the documentation and operation of residue assurance programmes.

Implementation of Residue Assurance Programmes

The Standard proposes a number of steps to ensure that official assurance requirements will be met:

  • developing residue assurance programmes (RAPs)
  • evaluating each RAP to ensure it is suitable for the intended purposes
  • registering each RAP before it is put into use
  • verifying that each RAP is being properly implemented

It is proposed that verification may be undertaken by third parties (i.e. non-government businesses) who must be accredited to international standards and registered within New Zealand.
