Policy & LawGovernment's objectives for food regulation can only be met by operating within a coherent policy framework. It requires a robust, modern, comprehensive legislative base, implementation tools and mechanisms to measure its effectiveness. The policy framework must include systems to maintain currency and ongoing relevance and responsiveness of the programme to domestic and international food safety and trade developments and obligations, thereby mitigating risk and maximising opportunities. Finally, it must deliver consistent implementation of food related legislation. The Policy and Regulatory Standards Group leads the evaluation, review and development of food policy, including legislation, across the New Zealand Food Safety Authority. |
