New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002, Amendment No. 19
The Minister for Food Safety, under section 11L of the Food Act 1981, issues the following amendment to the New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002.
1. Title
These standards are the New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002, Amendment No. 19.
2. Commencement
This amendment comes into force 28 days after its notification in the New Zealand Gazette.
3. Amendment
The New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002 are amended by omitting clause 4 and substituting the following clause:
“4 The Food Standards Code
1) Under section 11F of the Food Act 1981, these standards incorporate the Food Standards Code, as amended, up to and including Amendment No. 97 to the Food Standards Code.
(2) Despite clause 4(1), these standards do not incorporate those parts of the Food Standards Code identified in the Food Standards Code as applying only in Australia.”
4. Application of Clause 4.2 of Amendment 97 limited
Clause 4.2 of Amendment 97 of the Food Standards Code (which inserts a new clause 5 into Standard 2.1.1 of the Food Standards Code relating to the mandatory addition of iodised salt to bread)─
(a) applies only to bread produced for the New Zealand domestic market; and
(b) does not apply to bread exported from New Zealand.

Explanatory Note
This note is not part of the standards and has been included to explain their general effect.
The New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Food Standards 2002, Amendment No. 19 adopts into New Zealand domestic law Amendments No. 96 and 97 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.
The New Zealand (Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code) Foods Standards 2002, Amendment No. 19 was notified in the New Zealand Gazette on 15 May 2008 and will come into effect 28 days after this date.
Amendment No. 96 of the Food Standards Code
Amendment No. 96 contains amendments to the Food Standards Code, including amendments to:
• allow the use of cyclamates in tabletop sweeteners (Standard 1.3.1); and
• lower the level of cyclamates permitted in water based flavoured beverages (Standard 1.3.1); and
• allow the use of nisin in processed meats (Standard 1.3.1); and
• allow the use of agarose ion exchange resin as a processing aid for beer (Standards 1.3.3 and 1.3.4).
Amendment No. 97 of the Food Standards Code
Amendment No. 97 contains amendments to the Food Standards Code, including amendments to:
• allow the use of food derived from amylase-modified corn line 3272 (Standard 1.5.2); and
• make the use of iodised salt mandatory in breads, other than breads represented as organic and breads produced in or imported into Australia (Standard 2.1.1).
Clause 4 of this Standard limits the application of the amendment to clause 2.1.1 of the Food Standards Code to bread produced for the domestic market in New Zealand.
Food standards subject to Regulations (Disallowance) Act 1989
Food standards, including this amendment, are subject to the Regulations (Disallowance) Act 1989. Any person has the right to make a complaint about a food standard to the Regulations Review Committee.
