Serious about food safety

We operate an approved Food Control Plan

What is a Food Control Plan?

A Food Control Plan is a new food safety management system, developed by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority and available nationwide. It covers staff training and hygiene, food sourcing, storage, preparation, handling and cooking. Our Food Control Plan provides us with the information we need to control the safety of food from the time we buy our supplies right up to the point where we serve it or you buy it.

How is it different to what happens now?

The old system focussed on council staff inspecting a food business premises, which meant some operators could do the minimum they needed to in terms of food safety. When it comes having our Food Control Plan checked, we need to be able to show the verifier that we’re in control of the food safety aspects of every step of our business.

Why doesn’t every food business have one?

For now, Food Control Plans are voluntary. Once a new Food Act (currently being developed) is finalised, it is expected that most food businesses in New Zealand will need to have one. We joined this voluntary programme because it provides us with a practical system and demonstrates our commitment to producing safe food.

How do you know I have a Food Control Plan?

Because we are operating under this new system, we have our Certificate of Recognition on display. Our Food Control Plan shows our customers we are serious about food safety.
