Introduction to ANZ VICH
Introduction
A number of countries working together in a "harmonisation" of technical data means that, long term, there should be greatly reduced costs and increased speed in the process of approving new veterinary medicines for use. This will follow a reduction in workloads and rationalisation of government resources. At the moment some countries have additional special requirements which are covered by guidelines but which are not necessarily required in all regions..
Harmonisation is also expected to facilitate the exchange of assessment reports and allow companies to rationalise development work on new chemicals.
Furthermore, the elimination of unnecessary duplication of testing will mean fewer animal studies, and is expected encourage more work in niche market sectors.
Australia New Zealand VICH Representatives
Australia New Zealand VICH (ANZ VICH) has "observer" status on the VICH
steering committee (VICH SC).
This observer status means two delegates - one from government and one from
industry - represent ANZ VICH on the steering committee. This representation is
shared on a rotational basis by Australia and New Zealand.
The current delegates are drawn from the New Zealand Food Safety Authority
(NZFSA) and the Australian animal health, chemical industry (Avcare).
Government and industry representatives from observer countries are invited to participate in expert working groups, where representatives have full voting rights. However, these full voting rights do not extend to the VICH SC itself. Observers may discuss issues, but do not have voting rights, nor are observer countries obligated to adopt guidelines.
