Dairy consults on proposed changes

Previous page  | Contents

Over 150 members of the dairy industry - representing exporters, manufacturers, supply chain teams, engineers and quality and compliance staff - attended the NZFSA Dairy team's recent workshops on the proposed changes to dairy legislation.

The dairy industry will be incorporated into the Animal Products Act later this year.

"This will provide a harmonised approach to animal-based industries, which will be risk-based rather than prescriptive and will provide export assurances and regulatory models," Project Manager Ann Hayman says.

The workshops, held in Auckland, New Plymouth and Christchurch, included presentations on the proposed risk management programme, cost recovery, verification and changes to the Dairy Standards.

Feedback from the Workshops showed that industry was delighted that the team was looking at historical requirements and reassessing them "sensibly, logically and scientifically".

Discussion papers, Draft standards and Draft Specifications are currently being released for public consultation. For more information, check the Dairy page on our website:
