Pan products list expected today
30 April 2003
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority is expecting to know by the end of today if any of the Pan Pharmaceuticals products recalled in Australia are available in New Zealand.
"We have been talking with people in the dietary supplements industry this morning who have said they would supply us with that information, so as soon as we know we will make it available to the public," NZFSA's Director of Policy and Regulatory Standards, Carole Inkster said.
Australia's national regulator of medicines and other therapeutic goods, the Therapeutic Goods Administration, on Monday suspended the licence of Pan Pharmaceuticals and requested the recall of 219 of its products because of "serious concerns about the quality and safety of products manufactured by this company".
"We contacted Pan Pharmaceuticals yesterday and asked them to provide us with information on the products available in New Zealand and to issue a recall of those products if there are any here. They were given 24 hours to respond and we are waiting to hear back," Ms Inkster said.
"Public safety is paramount and as soon as we have information of use to the public, we will pass it on. In the meantime, anyone with any concerns should visit our website www.nzfsa.govt.nz which has a direct link to the TGA's website which has the lastest information."
