Food Recall: E. Coli in Happy Valley Dairies Milk
21 October 2008
The New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) is warning people not to consume Happy Valley Dairies milk produced on 15, 16 and 17 October 2008 because it may contain high levels of E. Coli bacteria. This product is sold in retailers, supermarkets and dairies in the southern South Island and has batch dates of 151008, 161008 and 171008 (the batch date is day month year), and use by dates 28 to 30 October 2008.
NZFSA is advising anyone who has the product not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Samples have been found to contain high levels of E. Coli which can cause serious illnesses including gastroenteritis. People with concerns following the consumption of this product should seek medical advice.
NZFSA has issued Happy Valley Dairies with a direction to recall milk produced between 15-17 October 2008. NZFSA is also aware that Happy Valley Dairies produce other products and these are being investigated.
Media can contact Happy Valley Dairies for comment on 03 226 6942.
This statement is made under section 84 of the Animal Products Act 1999 by the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority under delegated authority. It is protected by qualified privilege.
