Examiners with a National Certificate in:
• Meat Processing – Petfood (Safety);
• Animal Product Examination Services (Petfood) with strand in Ante-mortem examination
• Animal Product Examination Services (Petfood) with strands in Ante-mortem examination and Post-mortem examination
The Animal Products (Specifications for Products Intended for Animal Consumption) Notice 2006 requires that persons responsible for the ante-mortem or post mortem examination of farmed mammals, (including cattle, bobby calves, horses, hinnies, sheep, goats, deer and pigs) for processing for pet food must hold one of the qualifications listed in Schedule 2 of the Notice. These qualifications include a veterinarian registered under the Veterinarians Act 1994, various Certificates in Meat Inspection and a specific pet food qualification.
The specific pet food qualification was referred to as the Certificate of Competency for ante-mortem and post-mortem examination issued by AsureQuality Limited, Registered by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. Its correct title was the ‘National Certificate in Meat Processing – Petfood (Safety)’. This Certificate was reviewed and updated in 2008. This resulted in a number of changes to its structure and content including a change in title to the ‘National Certificate in Animal Product Examination Services (Petfood) with strands in Ante-mortem examination and Post-mortem examination’.
