Crown funding support for export wine testing

NZFSA are introducing a change to the way Crown funding in managed. From 1 October, winemakers and exporters applying for export wine analysis will pay laboratories directly for testing.

Crown funding is only available for export wine testing where this is specified as an overseas market access requirement. Currently this only applies to testing that supports the issue of a VI-1 certificate for wine destined to European Union (EU) countries.

Where testing has been used to support the issue of a VI-1 certificate, NZFSA will pay a rebate to the applicant.

The rebate will cover the actual cost of the analysis, up to a maximum of $160 + GST per sample tested.

This figure has been calculated based on the following factors:

The mean quoted price per sample in tenders received for the contract in 2007

Inflation rates from the Reserve bank

New Zealand Winegrowers’ forecasting for export growth to the UK

The fact that there is now one less test required for the EU.
